What do you all make of the rumours making the rounds that Blur are recording with William Orbit for a new album? I'm skeptical (having followed this band for nearly 20 years, I have to be, much as I love 'em!) but at the same time so hopeful and excited!!

How about you?

  1. I'm optimistic for several reasons. Not the least of which is what appears to be a resurgence of interest in Blur fueled by member's side projects, the 2009 tour and film, and the Brit Award stuff this year. Some of my 20-something students know who Damon is, and know of Blur, although they are all too young to have been into them in the 90's. Nonetheless, I'd bet that the interest generated from particularly the Gorillaz would be a boon to get a new and younger audience. Graham's new record and all the stuff Damon does may prove to hold things up, but if the sentiments expressed in the recent film are genuine, and the aforementioned points are valid, then I'd say it could happen. I hope they tour the states; haven't seen 'em since 96.

  2. Those are great points you've made, Charlie. I agree with them all, too. I think 2012 is shaping up to be an interesting and exciting year for Blur and us fans. Sounds like you're an "old-timer" like me...I think for us it's particularly gratifying since we've been with them for so many years. Haven't seen them since 2003 myself, so another go 'round here in the USA would be excellent!
